In Mid-September, HALO’s HUMINT
investigations’ team identified a Barry Silbert
impersonator channel on Telegram. The account,
“Barry Silbert”, is at t.me/@barry_silbert_2
The user description reads, “Bitcoin trader with over 7
years cognitive experience”. When asked, the user
affirmed they were the CEO of Digital Currency Group.
The account profile uses an image as Barry Silbert
credited to a New York Times photographer.
Investigator corresponded with @barry_silbert_2 and
discovered one bitcoin wallet address associated with
this scam: 17YEdSzCr2jZgECeJ3u14zsubzc8ihkSxe
featured below.
When asked, the imposter provided WhatsApp number
+1-574-651-7828. The carrier for the phone number is
voip number provider Bandwidth.com
